Message From The Family

Thank you for your support during this difficult time. Please enhance this tribute to Jackie by adding your memories and photos.

SALEM - Ms. Ann "Jackie" Hennessey, 87, of Salem, passed away peacefully Sunday, September 8, 2019 at the Lafayette Rehabilitation in Marblehead.

Born in Peabody she was the daughter of the late Charles and Gertrude (Wynne) Hennessey. She was raised and educated in Salem and was a graduate of Salem High School. Jackie continued her education at the former Salem State College where she received her degree in Education class of 1954.

A lifelong resident of the City of Salem Jackie was dedicated to her community. She educated the youth of Salem for 36 years as a fourth grade teacher. She began her career at the Saltonstall School where she taught for 24 years and matriculated to Witchcraft Heights School retiring after an additional 12 years of dedicated service. Jackie loved education and teaching; she had a no nonsense approach to most tasks and was well known for her dreaded red sign and return stamp. Truth be told Jackie loved being a teacher and shaping the youth of the future.

Devoted to her faith, she was a longtime active communicant of St. James Church in Salem. Jackie volunteered and supported many of the church's activities especially the holiday fair. She was a member of Catholic Daughters of the Americas and was always there to lend a helping hand for someone in need. Jackie enjoyed being with her friends, taking in the sights of Salem and regaling with stories from the classroom and how she survived the devastating train crash of 1956. She enjoyed her many social activities and will be deeply missed by her family and friends.

Jackie is survived by Colleen Babineau and her husband David of Salem, Daniel McCarthy and his wife Laura of Peabody and Steven McCarthy and his wife Kim of Salem.

ARRANGEMENTS: Her funeral service will be held in The O'Donnell Funeral Home, 46 Washington Sq., (at Salem Common) Salem on Thursday, September 12th at 11:30 AM. Relatives and friends invited. Burial in Greenlawn Cemetery, Salem. Visiting hours prior to the service, from 10 to 11 AM.
